Residential Water Mist

Residential Water Mist

Sprinkler Tech Ltd are at the forefront of fire suppression technology offering approved domestic and residential water mist systems to BS8458: 2015.
Residental and Domestic Water Mist Systems
Sprinklers
With the introduction of BS8458 in 2015 water mist systems became a viable and accepted alternative to fire sprinkler systems. Typically water mist does a better fire fighting job and uses slightly less water than sprinklers, this means less water damage in the event of an activation.

Be Careful, Not all mist systems are equal.

There are plenty of innovative systems in our industry, despite this many of these systems are not fully compliant to BS8458:2015. We are one of few companies that do offer fully compliant water mist systems. To make a mist system compliant to BS8458 it must have a pump that automatically tests monthly, Nozzles must be activated by a quick response thermal element and not heat/smoke detectors, Nozzles must be tested to a recognised protocol with documentation provided, Pipework must be designed for use in fire protection systems. When evaluating which system to go for, make sure they meet the above criteria.
Our Water Mist Systems

Our low pressure water mist systems operate at 6 bar and use approximately half the water of conventional fire sprinklers. Our systems are fully compliant to BS8458. We use a High quality self testing pump set.

The mist heads we use are manufactured by world leading low pressure water mist supplier VID firekill, we use both an FM approved nozzle and nozzles that have passed the tests outlined in Annex C of BS8458:2015 with a 3rd party witness by DNV.GL. We use CPVC pipework, FM approved for use in fire suppression systems.

Low Pressure Water Mist System

CPVC pipework
Low pressure water mist is the best system for domestic and residential properties. To fight fires Low pressure water mist relies on a combination of heat absorption and fuel wetting, systems work at pressures less than 12 Bar creating small water droplets of approximately 250 microns in size this is a quarter of the size of sprinkler droplets.

The high quantity of smaller water droplets discharged creates a large surface area to absorb the heat this cools the fire quickly and turns the some of the droplets to steam to help reduce the oxygen to the fire. Some water droplets created by low pressure water mist are large enough with enough velocity to penetrate the fire to wet the fuel and surrounding area.

There are no external factors in domestic and residential properties that can reduce the systems effectiveness, for this reason low pressure water mist is a better system than high pressure systems in these applications, as such Sprinkler Tech only installs low pressure water mist in domestic and residential properties.
